The differentiator

Every result comes with a plain-English explanation

Calculator.net gives you a number. Bankrate gives you a number. Omni gives you a number. CalcBold gives you the number plus the paragraph that says what it means, what to do next, and where the gap is. Watch a few examples — these update in real time, same engine that runs on every calc page.

  • Restates your specific numbers in context — never generic.
  • Calls out one or two trade-offs you might have missed.
  • Suggests the concrete next step or scenario to explore.
  • Falls back to a deterministic engine if the AI proxy is offline.

Common questions

What people ask before using CalcBold

Frequently Asked Questions

The most common questions we get about this calculator — each answer is kept under 60 words so you can scan.

  • Is CalcBold actually free?
Yes. All 315 calculators are free with no signup, no paywall, no email gate. CalcBold is funded by ads on calc pages (never inside the calculator card itself) and by a future Pro tier for embeds and saved scenarios. Free is the default forever.
  • Do I need to sign up?
No. You never need an account to run any calculator. Inputs stay in your browser and the math runs client-side — nothing on our servers ties back to you. Saved scenarios and PDF export ship in Pro (Q3 2026); the core 315 calculators stay sign-up-free forever.
  • How accurate are the formulas?
Every formula is the published industry standard — IRS Rev. Proc. for tax brackets, WHO for BMI, Mifflin-St Jeor for TDEE, NREL PVWatts for solar, AAA for vehicle TCO, ICAO for flight emissions. Each calculator page cites its source with a snapshot date; tax brackets refresh annually after IRS release.
  • Can I trust the AI insight?
The AI insight is a Claude-generated paragraph that restates your number in context, calls out one or two trade-offs, and suggests a next action. When the proxy is offline, a deterministic fallback engine produces the same shape from the same math. Decision support, not a CPA or doctor.
  • Is my data private?
Yes. Inputs stay in your browser — never persisted, never logged, never tied to a user. The only outbound call is to our AI proxy for the insight paragraph; the proxy receives the calculator id and computed result, not your raw inputs, and the request is not logged.
  • Can I embed CalcBold on my site?
Yes — every calculator is embeddable as an iframe in three sizes (full / compact / mini) and four themes, with currency and locale parameters. Free with attribution; white-label and analytics ship in Pro. There's also a WordPress plugin (alpha) and React + Vue NPM components on the way.
  • What is NOT modeled?
Each calculator page spells this out per tool. Common gaps: multi-state income-tax allocation, niche IRS credits beyond headline ones, jurisdiction-specific lender fees, ZIP-level utility tariffs, employer-plan edge cases (HSA matching, ESPP variants beyond 15%). Where math is uncertain, we show ranges, not single numbers.
  • How often is data refreshed?
Tax brackets annually after IRS / HMRC / CBDT release. AI vendor rates quarterly (Anthropic, OpenAI, Google, Mistral). Cost-of-living indices monthly via Numbeo. Insurance, fuel, and utility tariff defaults quarterly from EIA / AAA. Every calculator page shows its snapshot date in the editorial meta block.
  • Where do the data sources come from?
Finance: IRS + lender standards. Health: WHO + NIH + Mifflin-St Jeor + sleep research. Career: BLS + Atlassian. Tax: IRS / HMRC / CBDT. Auto: AAA + EIA. AI: vendor rate cards. Climate: NREL + LBNL + ICAO. Travel: ICAO + Numbeo. Decision: USDA + Stanford. Full list at /methodology.
  • Can I save my calculations?
Saved scenarios, named comparison sets, and PDF export ship in CalcBold Pro (Q3 2026 — $9/mo). The core 315 calculators stay free forever; Pro adds persistence, white-label embed, and team accounts. For now, every result has a shareable URL with inputs encoded — bookmark or send without an account.
