About the Glass Coffee Jar with Wooden Lid & Spoon

An 18.5 oz glass jar with a wooden lid and a matching wooden scoop that clips to the side, so the spoon is never in a drawer when you need it. Coffee stales from oxygen, moisture and light; a sealed jar on a shelf handles two of the three and a dark cupboard handles the last. At 8.8 cm across and 12.8 cm tall it holds roughly a 350 g bag of whole beans, which is about a fortnight for two people. Also honest work as a tea, sugar or spice jar. Hand wash the lid — wood and dishwashers do not mix.

Still deciding? How to Store Coffee, Oil and Dry Goods

Store coffee beans in an opaque or cupboard-kept airtight jar and buy in quantities you will finish within two to three weeks — oxygen, not time alone, is what stales coffee. Keep flour, rice, pasta and sugar in airtight jars with a replaceable gasket, which keeps humidity and pantry moths out far better than a folded bag. Decant only a week or two of cooking oil into a clear dispenser and leave the rest in its original dark bottle, because light and oxygen turn oil rancid faster than anything else in a kitchen.

Questions about the Glass Coffee Jar with Wooden Lid & Spoon

How much coffee does it hold?

About 350 g of whole beans, or roughly a standard retail bag. Ground coffee packs denser, so a little more by weight.

Is the seal airtight?

The lid has a sealed rim that keeps air out far better than a folded bag, which is the main thing. For beans you are keeping longer than about three weeks, a one-way valve bag in the freezer still beats any jar.

Can it go in the dishwasher?

The glass body can. The wooden lid and scoop cannot — a dishwasher cycle dries wood out and eventually splits it. Wipe them and let them dry.

Should coffee be stored in glass at all?

Glass is fine as long as the jar lives somewhere dark. Light degrades coffee oils, so a clear jar on a sunny counter is the one mistake worth avoiding. A shelf or a cupboard is ideal.

Can I use it for tea or spices?

Yes. The seal and the scoop suit loose leaf tea, sugar, salt and dried herbs equally well. Strong spices will scent the wooden lid over time.
