About the Cooling Ice-Silk Pillowcase
A polyester-spandex knit with a smooth, cool hand — sold as ice silk, which describes how it feels rather than what it is made of. The reason it works is simple: your head loses a disproportionate share of your body heat, so the surface it rests on has an outsized effect on whether you wake up at 3am. A cooling pillowcase costs a fraction of a cooling mattress topper and does much of the same job for a hot sleeper. Smooth enough that it is easier on hair than cotton, too. Envelope closure. One. The supplier's packing list is a single pillowcase per unit, so order two if you want a matching pair.
What is ice silk?
A marketing name for a smooth polyester-spandex knit, not silk. It is 90% polyester and 10% spandex. The cool feel comes from the fibre conducting heat away from your skin faster than cotton does, not from any coating or treatment.
Does the cooling effect wear off?
No, because it is a property of the fibre rather than a finish applied to it. What does fade is the surface smoothness if it is washed hot or tumble dried on high, so wash cold.
Is it good for hair and skin?
The surface is smoother than cotton, so it creates less friction on hair overnight, which is the same reason satin pillowcases are recommended. It is not silk and does not have silk's moisture properties.
What size pillow does it fit?
51 × 66 cm, a US standard pillow. The supplier also makes 51 × 76 cm and 51 × 90 cm, but standard is the size we stock.
